The key to a great PRIME entry is to focus on the external impact of your work and not on routine internal metrics, say two veteran judges, Malcolm Dawes and Anthony Bonnici.
The pair joined the judging panel 20 years ago and have many insights from the hundreds of entries they have reviewed.
Top of their list is to focus on what the work means to your customer, be it a healthcare professional, consumer, or both. Another key point is to read the questions carefully.
Here are Malcolm and Anthony’s top seven tips for a great entry:
- Structure your entry well based on the questions in the entry form
- Explain why your outcomes matter outside your organisation
- Avoid jargon
- Write for the judges
- Provide supporting evidence
- Be original and be yourself.
- Don’t get someone else to write the entry. We want to read your story and your take on the outcome.
Malcolm urges entrants to ensure they explain the difference their entry has made to customers and the community at large. “And certainly, don’t write that you’re still waiting to find out the results of your work.”
A good entry is one that answers the questions well, provides all the evidence and is written from the judges’ perspective, Anthony concludes.” It’s like when you’re selling something. Sell from the buyer’s perspective, not the seller’s perspective.”
